    ART Scope Case?

Auction is closed now but, this is described as a first generation ART scope case. It appears to have " CASE, CARRYING" written in it, but, the flash obscures part of the last word so I could be mistaken.

It doesn't look like the ones I've seen and looks a whole lot newer.
    Thoughts?

    Hawk:

I wondered the same thing. It does say CASE, CARRYING followed by the number 10559???. The last 3 are not clear but it could be 10559880.

The obvious difference is that the standard Ar Tel scope can is stepped down narrower at the bottom. The number is also different than the standard Ar Tel scope case number. The color, markings and construction all look like the standard Ar Tel case, except for not being "stepped" like the standard.

I agree. Wonder why the guy is attempting to pass it off as Original AR TEL. I would think it would be for later ARTII scopes if for the ART scopes at all.

    Re: ART Scope Case?

That AR TEL case on gunbroker has been restored (or over-restored in my opinion). Many were painted over the years in the 1970s-1980s, but the one on gunbroker looks like it got re-painted in 2018... His price is truly nuts. FWIW, I got an original AR TEL case on eBay for $220 back in 2016 or 2017, here's the pics, along with an ART II case. (Note: it was very common for the OD green paint to flake-off the round edges of the removable cap on the aluminum AR TEL transport case).

AR TEL on left (aluminum), and ART II on right (fiberglass construction)

front (the case was re-painted at some point, so the original stenciling was painted-over):

    back:

...and here was a nice AR TEL scope and case on eBay back in 2017. The stenciling on this AR TEL case looks legitimate (not mine, but saved the pic):

    ...hope this is helpful.

    Re: ART Scope Case?

Any idea what the case on gunbroker would have been for it not ART scopes?

    Re: ART Scope Case?

Maybe it really is an early Ar Tel. Its looks similar to the standard Ar Tel metal case, just without the notch that narrows the bottom of the case.

I agree, looks like an AR TEL case, but perhaps an early or prototype case.
