MRE's are great. A couple of us used to go to the supply room and raid the inventory sometimes. That is when we didn't feel like trekking to the mess hall.

MRE's are good...you have to remember they have a very high calorie count to sustain combat troops, if you're on a diet you might want to stay away from this type of meal. I remember eating "C" rations in 1966 Vietnam that was dated late WWII and Korean war era...don't remember seeing any dates after late 1950s.

I remember once in Delta Junction, Alaska, we were on a FTX and dug into our defensive position against some lower 48 units...we got word that hot chow was being served and we could go to 50% security, so send men to the cook tent just long enough to get our chow and get back to the line. Once we got to the tent, we noticed cases of bacon stacked outside(20 below zero), you guessed it, we grabbed a case and got back to our positions, we had enough for the whole platoon! Later on, when we had a chance to put up the ten man tents, we cooked the bacon on the yukon stoves! Best bacon I ever had!
