Re: Hawk's Luau and End-Of-Summer Hawaiian Dance Fest...
I left the States for Vietnam on 1 Jan 1973. I stopped in Hawaii and spent two days there. I visited Pearl Harbor during the day. I stayed at the Hawaii Hilton and had their luau shin-dig that evening. Lot's of good fun and food. I got to see Frankie Avalon and Elvis Presley. I think Elvis was doing a big televised show there. That was my one and only visit to the Islands. I then flew out to catch the rest of the Fleet. I don't remember the day, but I landed safely on board the USS Constellation sometime later that day.

Thanks Guys!
On the way to Okinawa in 72 we landed at the airport for about an hour. We were restricted from leaving the terminal as most of the GIs on the plane were headed for Vietnam. Sooos I never got to see a Luau first hand. Never even got laid in Hawaii.
