    Re: Cross canons

Very nice. Glad Ted was able to make it fit.
I had the same thing with my GWLA. Needed some fitting in the stock liner.
Couple of other areas on the receiver were off, but nothing that a little grinding and lapping couldn't take care of.
It's just too bad GWLA weren't in business long enough to put feedback from builders to good use.
The custom heels were a real drawing card for some.

Trying out a " different" stock on 147 today. And yes Hawk, one of your kits will be on each of my new Butt ugly M14 type rifles. Dang this is a hoot.

            My thoughts, (comments/critique welcome)

When you look at the blue prints with the allowable deviations its a wonder how well receiver legs fit the liner on M14s at all.
The first pic here shows the receiver leg to scale and the other exaggerated 4x horizontally for clarity. The second pic shows just the exaggerated view. The design plan profile is the red line. The allowable deviation measurements are in green. The upper allowable deviation is +/-0.015" both ways. The middle allowable dimension at the gage line is 0.008" toward the muzzle. If the upper dimension is forward of the design dimension by the allowable 0.015" and the gage point is correctly machined it pivots the lower edge toward the rear (butt) making the fit tighter, so even if everything is in spec it may still not fit.

And, if the legs are machined in spec with the allowable tolerances in opposite directions than the receiver the problem is exaggerated.

            Ugh!

By itself, the stock color looked a bit weird. But all dressed up looks mighty fine, like a Hawaiian beach. You having subliminal thoughts Art?

Edit- How'd this get all mixed up?

Snowflake Special is starting to grow on me. I think I'll stick a decent barrel on her today. Got a new NM Bula 22" just looking for a home. While I am at it, I have one more USGI Winchester kit on the shelf so the Chinese parts will go back in storage.

Hey, how about splatter paint? Better yet, I bet you could create a great camo pattern using woodland colors with a fishnet stocking. Or an orange/black Tony the Tiger stripe.

I kind of like the dabbing on of color with pieces of sponge in different shapes. Will try that at a later date.
On a roll now. Never know what's going to show up.
Barrel change went perfect. The GWLA receiver has a hole drilled for windage spring and ball detent so I installed that with some old SAI parts. Had to cut the spring in half to get it to work, but anyhow there is 1/2 moa windage functional now. Got up to 10 degs today so the shop is a welcome spot. Winchester kit mounted up fine and the winny trigger group has a 4.5 lb trigger pull that is smoooooooth. Op rod, gas cylinder, flash suppressor and associated parts show some finish wear, but are good as new for me.
Looks like warming this weekend so I hope to punch some paper.
