    Tx fng

Finally took the plunge (only took me 20 years of drooling), said F IT and my first M1A is on the way, also decided to stop lurking. I know there are various opinions of SA, but this one is mine, so I will love him and squeeze him and call him George (ok probably not George). 22" M1A loaded as I love a good trigger plus there mags/Scope special was too much to pass up.

Now I am trying to figure out which stock to put on. Suffering information overload.

Mainly I need to get this thing to the range when it arrives. I got the NM sights as I really do love my M1, despite my eyes getting old, and I will probably scope it and use it for long range semi-competition (Long range competitions around here). Plus the can is coming sometime this summer.

    Be gentle!

    Howdy, welcome.

Getting the proper adapter for your can could get interesting. The default threads on the end of the barrel aren't designed for such activity and their concentricity spec is "good enough for a flash hider." Stick a 8-12" can on the end and "a little off" on the threads ends up being a baffle strike (or end cap strike).

    You'll want an alignment rod.

Three ways to get it, either way you want a .2969-.298" rod:
    1) SureFire Bore Rod/Suppressor Alignment Rod (MidwayUSA for $70)
    2) 3-foot "precision ground, precision tolerance" drill rod, O-1 -- https://www.mcmaster.com/8893K219 ($13-ish shipped)
    3) 1-foot pin gauge (.298) -- Meyer Gauge Co, a few bucks ($65-ish) but absolutely straight

    Don't buy it from Amazon!

I bought a 0.246" O1 drill rod from amazon.com for my .25-06 rifle, some dorknut at the shipping center made a u-shape out of it before stuffing it in a box and sending it to me. Fortunately I only paid $6 for it (and free shipping), so I just held onto it and sourced another from elsewhere.

    Again, welcome.
