Not exactly sure where all this misinformation came from. The M14 would not still be in service if it wasn't a good rifle. They always mention the six years it was standard issue before the M16 came about, but it never really went away. That makes it about 62 years of use by the armed forces. The M21 and M14NM versions can be a little maintenance prone if not cared for properly, but that applies to all accurized rifles. The services keep trying to find a replacement because the M14 is expensive to maintain since they gave away all the parts 50 years ago. When a contract for 450 op rods was let out the cost was about $1600 each. Typical... I served in the Gulf and the sand there is extremely fine and gets into everything. The M14 works fine in it if not over lubed. After working on and shooting all types of service rifles since 1976 I have found the M14 to be one of the best out there.

The only people who ever liked it, it seems, were/are the people who have to shoot to live and were given a choice of what rifle to use. Their judgement is good enough for me. Almost one of those "are you gonna believe him or your lyin' eyes" situations.

I won't even waste my time reading his garbage. I've seen this type of stuff before.
It is probably the finest semi-auto battle rifle ever. On full auto, not quite... But then there aren't too many battle rifles that fire that full powered round that are very good on full auto.
The guys that really love the M14 are the ones who carried it inn combat. Its accuracy, reliability, and power instilled confidence in it. You can trust your life with it. Nuff said.

It never failed me once in combat and was carried weeks on end through the jungles in monsoon's and muck, without cleaning.
