Being able to screw a can on it is more important to me than doing well in NRA Precision Pistol matches.

4570, many years ago I owned a M41. Using CCI Green Tag Match Ammo it became a waste after 10 rounds as they were all the size of a dime st 25 yards. When S&W dropped production I knew the availability of parts would dry up in 10 years.
Meanwhile a friend would drool wanting one of them for his collection. I sold it to him for nearly the retail of a M41 at the time.
I have never looked back or regretted the decision.
My slide stop broke and I obtained 2 from S&W. I still have one in my parts bin.

I believe S&W is still making the 41.

Since you said this, I know there are a lot of folks who think we are nuts for spending what we have on our M14's, when you can buy a $300.00 Mossberg rifle! I've heard some say, "John, this Highpoint, is just as good as your 1911." Yes, I've actually heard such things. Of course, that was coming from those who wouldn't even spend the money on ammo for practice.

Through my own experience and association over the years with shooters reviews and feedback who have owned Ruger handguns, that for the most part have rated them to be more utilitarian in design and function.

They are solidly built like an anvil. They were designed for the masses and their production lines have built more guns than any other manufacture in America.

However that being said they fall a little short when it comes to the area of precision craftsmanship where one would make his livelihood behind the firing line.

            John
            I’m sorry for the confusion
I should say that I am not willing to spend that much on a 22. It doesn’t do enough for me and my style of shooting. It’s not a quality or a just as good as ... kind of thing.
I view a 22 as a practice piece not a target piece. I even bought a 22 226 for muscle memory practice and never used it. In 5 years I may have put 200 rounds through it. While my 9mm and my duty 226 exceeds several thousand.
I bought a S&W M&P 2215 for the same reason and have even less through it.

So for those reasons I won’t pay 1100 for one...

I have shot a number of Ruger stainless 5.5 bull bbl 22LR and found that they do quite well with the CCI Green Tag Ammo Match Grade and the Federal Match Ammo 22LR. They all shot just as well as the M41. Size of a dime at 25yds. I have no complaints about the Ruger. The M41 fits comfortably in the hand with its target grips. Both bbls are button rifled and miked at .223 dia for the .224 bullet.
It's like white , red or hybrid pink wine. Which do you prefer? I personally like the Ruger even though I was factory trained to repair the M41. If you are happy with your M41, I'm happy for you, 4570.

If Smith had made a M41 in stainless, I would have purchased that and kept it as a heirloom. It was legendary in its day.
