    Jeff Mattick - Double Distinguished

This AM was at Whittington Center practicing for the Firecracker 4800 smallbore prone match.

I met Jeff Mattick. He is retired Navy and now volunteers at the WC.

I noticed he had two Distinguished badges on his cap. He told me that for 18 of his 40 Navy years was was on Navy service rifle (with a 7.62x51 Garand) and bullseye pistol teams.

He said he may be the only person to every go double distinguished (rifle & pistol) on the same day. He did it at a Fleet Match where he shot both rifle and pistol.

Double Distinguished is a small club.
“After all is said and done, successful rifle shooting on the range is nothing more than first finding a rifle and lot of ammunition which will do precisely the same thing shot after shot, and then developing the same skill in the rifleman.” ~ Capt. E. C. Crossman (The Book of the Springfield)
