The United States Marine Corps changed my life for the better. I was headed nowhere when a friend talked me into enlisting. I would not have gotten into the Maryland State Police with out my time and training in the Corps.
The only Woodstock I saw in 1969 was on my M14

Comments - I was full of piss and vinegar when I enlisted at 18 years old to go overseas and fight for my country. Four years playing war made me realize how lucky I was to never having been on a two way range, but I've always felt like I never paid my dues.

USMC gave me more in 4 years than most civilians get in a lifetime. I am very grateful. My old Platoon gets together every other year for a reunion in Vegas, we were an
extremely tight platoon back in the day and still are. My phone rings or text messages daily. Marine Corps is still giving to me for what little time I gave to it. Amazing!

From my journal – “…the final procession was as moving and emotional as the initial one…the difference was that the walk back was longer and the road flanked by uniformed Anaheim PD, proudly saluting their “fallen officer”…in an uncharacteristically emotional gesture, I instinctively grabbed the hand of Smitty’s younger son, whom I sensed was marching alongside…I never let go of his hand, until I saluted Smitty one final time, assuring him and his family that Marines take care of their own…we are the stewards of peace and war…” Semper Fi to my fellow Marines on this forum and the association.
