Re: Welcome Bula Defense Systems
Thanks Hawk.
This is Mark Andrews, the VP of Marketing and Sales for Bula Defense. I'm putting this information on a couple of sites for the M1/M14 fans out there.
Bula Defense has initiated additional production of its M14 rifles. First deliveries should take place immediately but more to follow within weeks. Sales contact is shifted to Julie VanOverberg at [email protected] and 216-218-2396. Julie is a veteran of Springfield Armory and ArmaLite. More info is to follow. During this period you can expect telephone and Internet congestion so please be patient.
Julie became worked with both M14s and ARs during her years at the two firms. She'll have a fair amount of catching up to do so it's best to work within this Internet site for hobby, technical, and shooting questions. Frankly the level of knowledge on this site is overwhelming and it's not possible for any one person at Bula or any other firm to provide the background we see here.
All existing orders remain in place and will be handled in the order received.
Bula’s business model has changed several times since it entered the firearm market. Early models focused on relationships with several firms who would take Bula components to build nice rifles. Bula suffered a pretty complex system of building small lots of differing parts. The process was inefficient because of the low rates and it considered leaving the market.
We built a base of great friends and customers and won’t abandon them. Then too, few dealers can stock the full range of parts and accessories needed by our retail friends and we think it would be bad for business at both the retail and dealer levels to cut this support. In addition we learn a LOT about the market and rifles from contacts with our retail customers.
The Bula Internet site is undergoing update... which is always frustrating... and it will be posted very soon. We'll be adding information to it as we receive inquiries and as we advance production and sales plans. Do not expect fast responses to messages for the near term (including what I mean by near term). We're building the operation and will respond as posslble based on information on hand and the priority of the matter.
We'll be reaching out to you for suggestions and information as we progress.
I'll close by noting that I am extremely impressed by the knowledge and passion shown on this site. It's absolutely not possible for any rifle company to provide the quality and quantity of information available from this site.

Re: Welcome Bula Defense Systems
I think the first order today was for parts.
We're looking at how to make it work easier. The costs of a single small part is so high because of processing and handling costs that we're looking at alternatives. Will get back with you when we get ideas resolved.
It might be best to figure a way of ordering parts by Internet rather than phone.

Re: Welcome Bula Defense Systems
Parts are currently for sale. Julie has a spreadsheet of what's available now. We're focused on building rifles at the moment but I'm pressing to get kits (like a bolt kit) and individual parts available.
Am looking into projects especially for the forums. It's a great way to get feedback.
And while I'm in this thread I should note that I provided an incorrect telephone number for Julie. The correct number is in my post above but I'll repeat here: 216-218-2396.

Re: Welcome Bula Defense Systems
I think that if you sold kits of parts in chunks that make handling and inventory more cost-effective, it might be a good way to get back into direct sales of 'not entirely rifles'. I know Bula used to sell a standard parts kit, as well as an XM-21 kit, both of which I think were pretty much everything except the receiver, stock, and barrel, which I would think would be popular, particularly among those who might want to stock up on a few to designate for future builds.Comment
