This unit had probably been kicking around Alaska since the original anti-aircraft gun battalion was there in the 1940's and 50's. It was issued to me as TA-50 (except the headband, which was issued in BCT) in early '77. When it came time to rotate out of there, I turned in a dented unit found in a wall locker full of junk and hung onto this one. By then, first line units were being issued the new kevlar buckets so I didn't feel so bad about giving this one a new home. Probably saved it from being buried when they bulldozed the place (a remote site).
WW2 helmets actually wee textured with ground cork applied to the wet paint to keep the glare off of the helmet. Later on some helmets were refurbished with sand. All new helmets made for the VN era were sand.
You all can go to hell, I'm goin to Texas.

Hey! You learn something every day! Thanks m1ashooter!
I suppose the corking is good on it. The paint is all intact and bumpy all over. No chips or rust. Just wear on the rim in spots. It is in the exact condition it was in the last time I stood for inspection, just 40-odd years later. ;)

When you cross the border into Texas and you get pulled over, the first thing the LEO asks is, "Do you have any weapons in the vehicle ?" If you answer no, he says, "Want one ?".

And if they find out the driver is a felon, they give them a knife instead of a firearm.

If you're not in Texas and answer "I've got a .45 1911 on my hip, a .38 special revolver in the glovebox, a 9mm Glock in the console, an 870 12 gauge in the back seat and a Springfield M1A in the trunk." and LEO says "whoa! what are you scared of?" You answer "not a damn thing!"

You're amazing....you somehow convinced your wife to wear a helmet ?? I had mine on the floor in my man cave (spare bedroom where I keep all "my" things. I ain't doing the garage man cave, too damn hot down here, I need AC) and she bumped her toe. As she skipped around the room she asked, "And WHY is there a freaking helmet on the floor ?". I said, "It's a woman detector. Men would never trip over it, they'd ooo and ahhh then pick it up and try it on.".
She did NOT find that funny.

Too be fair, she has only had it on long enough to size the band. She would only put it on when she slides on her level 4s and fills her hands.....
