Re: Interesting M1 Garand operating rod tool

In the US Army we called it "headgear". There were various types, of course.
The closest type to a Marine cover being the baseball cap looking thing. I hated that ugly thing. Other than as ordered, I have never worn baseball-style caps my whole life and to this day do not own one, other than one that a brother gave as a gift.

We might tuck the brim into our belt on the back or front when indoors. Luckily though, we rarely were required to wear one in Alaska and other duty stations we were typically in class A uniforms.

Now, a Marine cover looks good and I might wear one of those, but I am not worthy.

We carried our starched covers with be brim tucked into trousers at the small of the back.

Same here. Worked perfectly...until you forgot it was there and sat down in a chair and leaned back.

I'm liking the haircut on that soldier; "high and tight with a runway". I sported that very same haircut. Can't do it nowadays though, best I could do would be "high and tight with beach erosion"...
