I don't seem to have that problem with my M14's, but I have seen such a thing with bolt action rifles, turns out to have been barrels that were not stress relieved. On your rifle, I think it probably has to do with fitting of the gas cylinder or the fitment of something else.

Thanks 4570govt! I am hoping it just needs to break in some... Here are the two '10 Dot' targets I shot with her... One yesterday and one today and they both show dropping low after the first two rds!?

A shot in the dark, but barrel heat.

On hunting rifles I shoot cold barrel, because the barrel is going to be cold when hunting game.
With battle rifles I shoot warm to hot, because in a hot situation the barrel is going to be hot.

I bet Art or one of the other rifle builders will know. I can run 'em, but the extent of my own 'smithing is rudimentary.

I'm in the same boat. only going by what my grandfather taught me.

For me, if you have a rifle that is set up right, it shouldn't have much difference in impact of the rounds on target. When shooting 600 yard matches, a string of fire is 2 sighters, plus 20 rounds for record. If you want those rounds in the 10 ring, they can't be moving because the barrel is heating up. The same can be said about just shooting 100 yards on Dirty Birds. If I don't hit the 10 ring, or even the X ring, I know it's me, not the rifle.

Re: Got my 'Jeep Gun' back today!

Something is putting downward pressure on the barrel and twisting it left. It doesn't take much. With my duty rifle I replaced the handguard and added a rail for a hand stop. The way the rail spanned the FSP I wanted to put the hand stop directly under the FSP. Even though the bayonet lug was inside the free float it still hand enough pressure on the hand stop rail to throw my shot at 50 yards 6 inches high.

My fix was to file down the center of the keymod bolts and voila , shots went back to DOPE.
