I'm not sure that any absolute measurement has any meaning other than if the m'f'g'rs gave absolute differences between their low-medium, medium-high, high-extra high, extra high-extreme high rings, you could form some idea if you had a low, whether a medium is what you need or a high. The actual height of the tube above the receiver is determined by base height plus ring height. And usually the conflict point is the objective and the barrel where the barrel is changing diameter and where that is also depends on both barrel diameter, objective diameter and scope length.
There were a lot worse places than Phu Bai and they weren't all in Viet Nam.
Got home a bit late today but did work a bit on my "Jeep Gun' checking rings and measuring them...
Replaced my medium TPS rings with my low TPS rings and have like .008 thou between the receiver and the scopes magification ring. Had much more with my 'medium' rings...
Not sure how to measure ring height but tonight I got my calipers out and measured my MED rings from the bottom of the mount to the bottom of the scope ring?
Here is what I got:
TPS medium: 0.486"
TPS low: 0.337
Is this correct? Comments; advice more than welcome...
I used the scope ring alignment tool and measured top of rail to the bottom of the nub on the point, which is essentially "center of scope bore."
The dial caliper is canted because I didn't have a third hand to hold it while using two on the camera.

I agree GunnyG!
Got home today and my Leupold 'Medium' #174076 QRW2 rings were here so I just went out in the garage and measured them just like I did my TPS Med rings:
TPS (med) 0.486"
Lewpold (M) 0.378" *these I will try as should give me 0.116" clearance from the rear bell on my new scope vs 0.008" with the current TPS 'Low' rings I tried... Will go a bit higher as am worried of brass ejection issues... XM21 Bula receiver used here

Went out today after work and after shooting my .45ACP on the 'under 6' challenge I mounted my new Leupold QRW2 'med' rings on my 'Jeep Gun' with it's new Std wt 5R barrel from Jon Wolfe installed by forceman on the other site. Was happy today as all went well this time; Last weekend was sleep deprived and wasted 50rds trying to get on paper!
Today took five... Here is what I did today... Think I am going to like this Chinese scope!

Did you not see the mess I made the weekend prior on my new scope? Trying to zero a new scope/rings where I only had the mounts and rings tightned 'hand tight'...

Yup, you used a high velocity hole puncher. The target resembled Swiss Cheese. Damn nice shooting under the circumstances.
The objective is and always will be, Hit The Target. You accomplished that objective.

Went out again today to finish fine tuning the zero on my rebarreled 'Jeep Gun'. The original barrel was a factory Bula med/hvy with another receiver that I got it down to roughly 1.5" groups common with an occasional 1" or better...
Now my 'Jeep Gun' has a different receiver and a Jon Wolfe std wt 5R 20 barrel on her... Here is what I shot today with my 'standard' Dirty Bird loading of thrown 41gr of H4895 and hornady 168gr hpbt match bullets. Best 5rd group today was with 40.5gr N135 and hornady 155gr ELD bullets she seemed to like...
Like my new Chinese scope and will need to play around with it a while.

Rifle seems to print the first two or three tight and go low thereafter. Any comments as to why from those who know?
