    Magazine disassembly

Just to start a discussion, are there any tools or special techniques any of you use to disassemble/clean your handgun magazines? The 1911 mags have non removable floor plates so any thing that you do differently to them?

There is a way to take apart a 1911 magazine with a fixed floor plate. It looks like a pain to do. But, it can be done. I only have one 1911 mag with the fixed floor plate

All the others are Tripp mags with removable extended floor plates.

I would use an air gun to just blow mine out if I did anything . . . then apply some dry lube.

Another thing I have learned... Those polymer PMags for AR type rifles. Don't keep them loaded for long periods.

They bulge ever so slightly. They still feed just fine, but they are a pain to plug into the magwell. They need a bit of fiddling around with to remove.

I had loaded them up 8 years ago....Now those are some real world test results. At least in my world.

I always thought the fixed plate mags were easy. My Taurus 9mm mags with the removable floor plate usually send the spring/follower across the room. Do you do anything special to clean them out? I've got a stiff nylon brush I use on mine.

Here's a simple way, take mag and stick it into a jar of kerosene and let it soke overnight.
The next day take it out and turn the mag upside down and leave it till all is evaporated.

Wipe off the magazine follower if need be. Now it's not only clean, but lubed as well !

My father's mother was a teacher in a 1-room schoolhouse, and later on a young widow with 4 boys to feed. I remember Pop telling me that she could fix an alarm clock: Same method as above. :)
