Why did you kill so many doves? Do you and the locals get to eat them?

Dwight,
Don't know if this would solve your problem, but it might be worth a look see. I have used these on my .308, .223, 12 ga and 20 ga. They're caliber specific, and I've found that they work really well. Just a thought.

The roost near Cordoba is 100 acres of non-farmable land containing approximately 2.5 million non-migratory doves. They are declared an agricultural pest bird by the government and there is an open season for an attempt to reduce crop damage and control them. Hunting them provides employment, income and an opportunity to sportsmen like no other. All birds are collected and trucked to town where some are eaten, but mostly become food for hog farming. If you look in the background of me shooting in 2005 you can see the ripe wheat field. When a downed bird struck the ground near the blind, it would burst open and be completely gorged with wheat kernels. After one session, another hunter asked if we had made any impact with the shoot and the outfitter said that more birds had fledged that day than we had taken. Overall a win-win for all. We did have grilled dove breast for lunch a couple of times during the hunt - delicious!

Wow!
Yeah, I like to eat doves too. Wrap a strip of bacon around the breasts and put them on cookie sheets in the oven. :)

Glad they are put to good use.! I hate seeing animals, birds killed for sport and not eaten.

My father's 16 ga Win Model 12 had that problem when we started using plastic shells; paper shells ejected without difficulty. Took it into Pachmayr's in downtown LA maybe 50 years ago to see about fixing it; they did. Turns out it was chambered for the shorter shells (2 5/8", I think) used when it was made (19 teens) and the plastic 2 3/4" shell mouths were stronger than the old style paper shells and wouldn't fold enough for clean ejection. I think they lengthened the chamber and opened the ejection port and hasn't been a problem since.
Maybe that is the issue with yours. You might also check out this website which discusses safety problems with the Marlin pump shotguns (Marlin pump safety).

There were a lot worse places than Phu Bai and they weren't all in Viet Nam.
