Sorry, Mud Pie. There isn't a speck of wool in them.

These Chinese clones are the closest I've found. I'll wring 'em out and see if they hold up.

Sustinemus, The one's Mud Pie posted up looked good to me so I ordered a set to try. I am here in the desert and am a cotton type!

Re: Real 1970's GI Socks. Where?

After several washings this is the verdict:

What I got might be considered a very decent, but insufficient, Chinese copy of the real things. You might call them a "summer weight" version of the real things. I think the issue is that they are simply woven with a too-light yarn. They are also WAY over-priced. I'm sure I financed a nice batch of ammo for some Communist Red Chinese soldier somewhere. I won't order them again.

I suppose I'll just consider the real things to be an extinct species and move on. Real fatigues are gone and so are socks, I guess. At least real BDU's are still made by Tru-Spec.

Tru Spec; long time ago I bought a web belt from them;; liked it alot, held up great. Order another; web is so thin it just slides right out of the buckle . I won't order anything from them again.

Ah, heck. I'm sorry to hear that, chief. :(

I have two or three sets of their BDU's I bought 10 or 15 years ago and they are top notch gear.

Dang! I hate it when a good restaurant turns to poop, etc.

One wonders if anyone at the company ever wears the merchandise (quality control) before marketing it.

Re: Real 1970's GI Socks. Where?

I got a crappy web belt from a "surplus" retail store several years ago, thinking it was the same thing we were issued long ago. After it started fraying to bits I was surprised to find that the interior appeared to be made of a bunch of kite string with the canvas-looking cotton weave shell around it. Crap from Korea or China, no doubt.

Does the current uniform include the web belt?
