I have the insatiable desire for a 300 AAC

For the love of Goodness I have a heck of a desire for a .300 blackout

Re: I have the insatiable desire?

Everyone I have talked to say it is basically a waste of powder, bullets, and primer . . .

Not enough power to be a serious cartridge . . . too much power to be a plinker.

Kind of like that almost fat girl most of us would have dated in high school if she had lost 30 lbs . . .

    May God bless,

Ya but, with subs and a can you are hearing safe inside a house with 900 foot pounds of energy at 100 yards that's out of a 5.5 inch barrel.

I'm just thinking home defense and maybe a get home bag type rifle..

    Hence, the conundrum....

It never really appealed to me; I went bigger with 458 SOCOM.

Re: I have the insatiable desire?

I've got a few. There are two schools of 300 Blackout, suppressed and unsuppressed. The first group is all about suppression and sub-sonic shooting. The second doesn't care about that and loads/shoots full house loads for hunting/ defense with ballistics pretty much matching 30-30 Win. I intended to play in the sub-sonic when I first got into it, but the precarious balance necessary to get reliable function and ejection in an AR platform and still stay sub-sonic is a real PITA!

Is that with hand loads or factory? I am also in the subs and suppressed only crowd.

Struggled with handloading for suppressor, almost all commercial ammo is supersonic, finally decided the juice wasn't worth the squeeze for trying to balance buffers, springs, loads, gas, etc. and just shoot supersonic with and without the can.

Re: I have the insatiable desire for a 300 AAC

I'm a 300BLK fan, generally shooting supersonic suppressed (110gr Varminter or V-Max about 2400fps). Pretty accurate for sure out to 200yds, & should be good out to 400yds, even out of a pistol-length barrel.

Having assembled several 300BLK ARs, I don't recall ever having to "tune" one to function reliably in all four modes (supersonic & subsonic, suppressed & unsuppressed). That said, I did move to A1680 powder for subsonic loads early on to cycle more reliably than H110, so I guess I did tune a load . . .

As for subsonic suppressed, 220gr bullets are a bit pricey to waste on a rainbow trajectory & effectively no expansion, so if I want Hollywood quiet I just grab a muffled 22lr & CCI SVs.

Well I got a Spikes cold hammer forged 8.3 inch 1/8 twist on the way.

Reckon I will see what the fuss is all about.

I think I will run it on one of my SBRs temporarily until I can decide.

Re: I have the insatiable desire for a 300 AAC

Had a text yesterday, my payment arrived Thursday and the parts went out yesterday.

Will update once I receive them, assemble and get to the range.

I don't know why I do this, I stay so dang busy it's tough to get to the range. Between all the added responsibility of the promotion at work, being a husband, dad, and coach I don't have much time anymore.

On another note we start pistol transition this Monday. 2 full days and about 1000 rounds......
